The internet is an endless playground, a treasure trove of information. Those with curious minds will spend hours scrolling and searching, often to the detriment of productivity, as we become distracted from our primary goals and objectives.
Problem is most of the stuff we're reading online isn't useful, and more often than not you'll not remember 98.7% of what you scroll through.
That's ok, because you don't need most of it.
But we do need to get better at choosing what to read so we don't waste our time. Alan Weiss, the Million Dollar Consultant, hits the nail on the head when he says *discretionary time* is one of your most valuable assets and is the most important factor in a successful and productive life. Discretionary time is the time you get to choose to do whatever it is that you want.
While money surely helps to get you there, so does using your time wisely and setting up systems to help get you through repetitive tasks.
Today we're going to give you a couple of tips on how to better choose the articles you read, and read them faster, with these two key Chromium extensions added to your browser.
1. AI Executive Summaries: BearlyAI offers an unbelievable suite of tools to help with your reading, writing, marketing and even image generation. This tool comes at a cost, but we've found the benefits to far outweigh the fee. What turned us onto Bearly was the Executive Summary function that can be found in their browser extension. With the extension, all webpages show a small brown bear button at the bottom left of your browser. Click it and watch the magic unfold as your receive a quick summary of the page, 3 key points from an article and 2 counter-arguments to consider.

While the executive summary is just that, a summary, what it does is inform you whether or not reading that article or report will be worth your time investment. If the answer is no, move forward and prosper without any FOMO (fear of missing out). But if your interest is peaked, move onto step 2 below.
2. AI Text-to-Voice: Making it's way in to the second straight blog post, NaturalReader's auxiliary chrome extension allows for seamless web article reading with a click of a button. What's also wonderful is the immersive reader that allows you to follow the text in a paragraph, while dampening the background text to keep your attention sharp. Set your reading speed between 1.5-2.5x and let the words and sounds flow effortlessly into your field of attention. Save and bookmark your article into the applications' library for easy recall in the future.

Bonus tip: many of us consume video content daily, with the purpose of learning something valuable that we can use in our day-to-day lives. If you're not watching for entertainment, consider speeding up all the videos you watch. Changing to a 1.25x speed has no effect on retention and comprehension, but it allows you to finish a 1 hour video in 48min. Here's a playback speed calc to show you how much time you save with each incremental increase: https://puretables.com/playback-speed-calculator
Add some video playback speed flexibility with the Video Playback Manager chrome extension. This is a must-have tool to help toggle speeds through videos, allowing users to speed through while following the conversation. Toggle down to slow the conversation and toggle up to fast forward. Speed is controlled by the "s - speed up" key and "d-slow down" key on the keyboard and speed ranges 0-16x, where a comprehension of 16x would constitute superhuman level intake.

If you're the type that loses interest early when listening to a slow talking presenter walk you through the latest update on government investments and procurements, selfishly, and pragmatically, you're looking for the information that's relevant to yourself, and want to move onto the next task of your choosing, hopefully something that provides you with value.
All three tools in this short piece are put to use routinely in our day to day research and learning practices. We receive no sponsorship from the developers and only wish to share our experiences. Please use at your own discretion.
